Labor day week end was an absolutely Gorgas weekend of chasing church history on the bikes. Lori and I went to KC and stayed with Dandra for the weekend and she accompanied us on aur bike adventure. Saturday we went through Kansas City, which is an adventure all in itself, and up into Missouri, where the Law said we had to purchase helmets!. Once in Missouri we went to Far West where the early Mormons settled after being chased out of Jackson County, They started to build a Temple there under the direction of Joseph Smith. Reading some journal entries of some of the saints we learned that Joseph smith actually had hands on involvement in quarrying the corner stones from the ledge as the notes called it. the corner stones were all that were placed before the saints were driven from their homes. the corner stones remain and it was awesome to see. Sunday we rode down to Independence and took in the visitors center and liberty jail. We felt an amazing spirit at Liberty Jail, after we listened to the narration of the events, we sat in silence (in front of the jail pictured) for a moment in the dimmed light and pondered what these great men did for us and the sacrifices that they made. As we sat there a Sister Missionary broke out in song with the most angelic voice singing 'Praise To The Man'. Talk about pulling on a guys emotions, it was an awesome experience.
